The past month has been a busy one in terms of media coverage of the Diabetes Center at UCSF. First, the Diabetes Center news item on May 29 announcing Dr. Jeffrey Bluestone and colleagues' success in arresting the development of type 1 diabetes was covered by media outlets around the world! Articles appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the BBC online, the LA Times, the SF Chronicle and New Scientist Magazine, to name just a few. In addition, many television and radio news reports discussed the development with a hopeful eye on the future and just this week, an article appeared in Time magazine. In addition, in the Tuesday, June 4 edition of the New York Times' "Science Times" section, a front page article by Andy Pollack describes the quest for new immune tolerance therapies for transplantation. Included are quotes from many of the world's foremost tolerance researchers, including our own Dr. Jeffrey Bluestone, who heads the international Immune Tolerance Network from it's UCSF headquarters.
