Year-End Thoughts from the Director

It has been a very successful year for the Diabetes Center at UCSF and we have a lot to be thankful for - the launch of our new, state-of-the-art islet and cellular transplantation facility, the success of our new-onset trials for type 1 diabetes, our continued progress in understanding the mechanisms of type 2 diabetes and the myriad of other events you've read about through eUpdate and in the news.

In this season where friends and family are such a big focus, it is only fitting that we acknowledge the overwhelming support of our extended family - patients, volunteers and all of our supporters throughout the world. Truly, it is the dedication, the optimism and the unfailing generosity of so many of you that has made 2002 a year to remember at the Diabetes Center. Your continued efforts on our behalf have helped us immensely in achieving so much in such a short time.

So, as the year comes to a close, we at the Diabetes Center find ourselves once again reflecting upon a momentous year, filled with achievement, and looking forward to continuing to earn the confidence you have placed in us. Be assured that we are hard at work improving our research, clinical and educational programs and have many new developments are in store in the coming year.
.
On behalf all the staff, scientists and volunteers of the Diabetes Center at UCSF, we thank you for your support and wish you the healthiest and happiest holiday season.
