Top Ten and Gaining!

UCSF has been ranked among the top ten hospitals for diabetes care in a new nationwide survey conducted by US News & World Report. UCSF Medical Center as a whole was ranked among the nation’s top 10 hospitals, climbing two spots to rank seventh and acknowledged for its “impressive quality and breadth of expertise.”

In it’s 13th annual edition of "America's Best Hospitals," 205 of the top medical centers were selected from a pool of 6,045 centers, and ranked in 17 different specialties. In the “Hormonal Disorders” category, which includes diabetes, UCSF ranked 9th, trailing only some of the country’s largest diabetes facilities.

Mark Laret, chief executive officer of UCSF Medical Center, said, "Clearly this ranking recognizes our long history of innovation in diabetes research and our commitment to quality care. It also reflects the leadership of Dr. Jeffrey Bluestone in our extraordinary patient services and research."

Diabetes Center Director Dr. Jeffrey Bluestone sees the news as a pat-on-the-back to his team, of which he is so proud. “It’s nice to see some recognition go to a group of very hard-working and dedicated people,” he says. “But to be sure, none of us are going to be truly content until we’ve reached the number 1 spot.”
