Director of Tolearnce Assays, Ph.D.

Dr. Vicki Seyfert-Margolis completed her PhD in immunology at University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine. After postdoctoral and teaching fellowships at Harvard, she joined the NIH as Director of the Office of Innovative Scientific Research Technologies where she worked to integrate emerging technologies into existing immunology and infectious disease programs. Vicki joined the ITN in late 2000 and was charged with the monumental task of creating and coordinating the ITN’s extensive and ambitious tolerance assay infrastructure. She has personally overseen the development of 10 separate core facilities, including the GeneChip and Real Time PCR cores and the construction of the ITN’s primer library of 1000 genes which may be involved in establishing and maintaining immunologic tolerance. In addition, she has managed the creation of the ITN’s clinical sample tracking system and repository and guided the development of standardized ITN protocols for a large number of bioassays. Equally at home in both industry and academic settings, Vicki has established collaborations between the ITN and numerous biotechnology and service companies, while also heading the ITN Tolerance Assay Group, the team responsible for assisting investigators in creating the complementary sets of mechanistic studies that accompany all ITN trials.
